Wandoo Reintegration Facility (pro-bono)
Based on our experience within the reducing reoffending sector in the UK we were asked to advise and contribute to Senior Management Team (SMT) meetings at the newly transitioned young offenders reintegration facility in Perth. Working with the SMT we helped them to focus on and explore new and more effective ways to implement the prisoner centric approach that was new to both Serco and the Department of Corrective Services (DCS), in Western Australia.
GDA’s experience of initiatives designed to break the cycle of reoffending within young offenders began in the UK working with HM Prison Service in 2004 and remains an issue very close to our heart.
We created a strategic plan and annual report that dynamically illustrated the balance between the necessary custodial care elements of the contract and the innovations taking place both internally and with through-the-gate suppliers such as Mission Australia and Perth Wildcats.
The result was a vital piece of stakeholder communication that highlighted the bigger picture, the importance and sheer scale of what was being achieved here at Wandoo in WA, as a pioneer of the government’s efforts to reduce reoffending in younger prisoners.
Because we were involved when the contract transitioned from a juvenile detention centre to a reintegration centre we could see the tremendous added value that we could provide in this busy environment. From photography through to design and artwork we completed this project pro-bono to enable staff to benefit from a document designed to showcase their dedication, effort and achievements right from day one.
